We Take The Cake is a thriving Fort Lauderdale boutique bakery specializing in nothing but cakes. It was founded in 1997 out of a shared love for baking and originally was solely focused on fulfilling a niche in the mail order gift market. However, an incredibly loyal and devoted customer base soon insisted that We Take The Cake expand its offerings.
Today, We Take The Cake has a hard-earned and well-deserved reputation as the premier specialty cake boutique in South Florida. Red Hill Groves was established in 1962. Our packinghouse is in the beautiful Conway area of Orlando. Rich in citrus history, many of central Florida's citrus pioneers planted their first groves here. Known for its good soil, beautiful sand bottom lakes and clean healthy air, it's the perfect place for us to showcase our delicious citrus fruit.
It was in the early 90's along the Florida panhandle and I was fresh out of college, now a communications and marketing graduate, but all I was interested in was cooking. Our area is known for its restaurants and for several years I was fortunate to work in some of the best.
In 1994 I made the big move to Hyde Park, New York and attended the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. With some good training and experience and now a degree from CIA it appeared as though I had a promising career as a chef, or so I thought. It was while in New York I somehow became an ambassador for true Southern slow cooked barbeque. The more I introduced it to students, the more I fell in love with it myself. In all of my travels and experience I still believe that there is no cooking method that can come close to barbeque when it comes to the passion of preparation, the anticipation, and of course the meal itself.
Thomas H. Rutland the founder of Boss Hog Ribs started honing his recipes real early on. With a passion for perfection he knew just what it took to get it right. Working only with quality natural spices and seasonings his dipping sauce and dry rub combo created a unique flavor that anyone who tasted it had to have more. So in the mid 1990s The Boss set up to do it right on the west coast of Florida to handle the needs of his friend's and family.
